The mission of JDR is to bring together women of any age, culture, affiliation, and label to honor women in every shape and form and make music together. JDR finds it imperative now, more than ever, to form a community that honors and respects women both in the music industry and in every aspect of life.
The Jane Doe Revue was established in 2017 to bring together the female musicians in the mid-MO community and to raise money for Planned Parenthood. Since the first show, JDR has raised over $30,000 for women’s health care in Missouri. JDR’s goal is to raise awareness of the importance of Women’s Rights, Women’s Healthcare, and to shed light on the importance of Equal Representation in the Music Industry. Each show takes the audience on a musical journey through the decades, showcasing songs written or made famous by women. Along with local talent, there are guest soloists and musicians rotating throughout the evening.
Since its inception, JDR has had an overwhelmingly positive response and has transformed the lives of women and young girls in our community by empowering them to use their voices to sing out and step up. It has provided an opportunity for us to share the stage with feminist icon Gloria Steinem as well as June Millington, of the all female rock band, Fanny. The event has grown consistently each year and drew nearly 600 people for our June 2019 show.
Through the power of music, both band and audience members alike have been moved and inspired by this big band of over 30 women. JDR encourages the importance of community rather than competition, as each and every member has a strength that can be brought to the table to enhance the musical and artistic experience.
